Bookstore walking tour
I like to patronize book stores within walking distance to my apartment. This act allows me to satisfy my need for physical exertion under a pretense that seems less Jane Fondaesque and more like an extreme intellectual pursuit. Anything within 4 miles qualifies as walking distance.
For this reason, almost three months passed before I visited Book by Book, the used bookstore that recently opened in Pawtucket, RI’s Hope Artiste Village. Owned by Providence Public Library’s rare book librarian, Rick Ring, and his thespian wife, Cristin Goff, Book by Book offers a smallish collection of reasonably priced books in a space so well designed that I morned the sessile shelving in my library. Goff arranged her shelves at clever, repeating angles that offer shoppers a view of almost every spine from the storefront. Rick called it feng shui; and I am hopeful that shopping there will have a positive impact on my personal relationships, health, and financial status.
Book by Book is worth a visit.
