I have mentioned before how much I love TED…the greatest minds in the world all meeting for the common good. Today, I stumbled upon yet another TED speaker that moved me. Imagine every book you’ve ever read, every movie you’ve ever seen, every piece of media you’ve ever laid eyes upon– on the web. For free. Digital librarian Brewster Kahle spoke at the most recent TED conference about his newest project called The Internet Archive. The Internet Archive’s goal is to archive everything and anything. Kahle’s mission with The Internet Archive also includes the idea of free access to information, for everyone.
You can watch his speech here, on the TED website. Kahle explains his project, along with discussing copyright and intellectual freedom ideas relating to the digital world. Even though a gigantic (and nearly impossible) project, the ideas Kahle explores in his speech, including intellectual freedom, copyright laws, and the rights of free information for everyone, are definately worth listening to.
